Stigma, job loss, lack of family support, physical violence, isolation, misunderstanding and fear are some of the emotions and experiences encountered by people affected by epilepsy. Those who are affected by epilepsy in Hong Kong are forced to live in silence as many are discriminated against, professionally and socially. Yet, the fact is, people living with epilepsy can lead normal lives if seizures are controlled as they are just like anybody else.
Enlighten is committed to providing support and care to those affected by epilepsy, and to remove prejudice through community education. As part of this commitment, and with support from Operation Santa Claus (OSC), Enlighten is introducing the first and only Helping Other People with Epilepsy (HOPE) Campaign in Hong Kong drawing on the experiences of people with epilepsy to impact a positive change in the community.
If you have epilepsy, are between 18-65 years of age, currently or previously employed, you can join the campaign. Please visit "How to Participate" for more details or click on "Sign Up Now" to register.
We would love to engage organisations committed to equal opportunities in becoming one of the epilepsy friendly organisations and openly promote this campaign internally to encourage employees with epilepsey to participate. These employees need to feel that it is a safe environment to step up to the challenge and sign up. In addition, once they have shared their stories, they have the option of becoming a HOPE Ambassador.
Please email Ms. Stephanie Wong at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details or to confirm your participation as an epilepsy friendly organisation.
