Following are the main objectives of the programme:

  • Improve the knowledge and understanding of Epilepsy in Hong Kong primary schools to ensure that today’s children become tomorrow’s supportive society.
  • Develop skills needed to deal with basic Epilepsy first aid across teachers and students so that everyone can manage seizures effectively and safely in the school environment.
  • Provide services for teachers and children to enable them to strengthen their knowledge about Epilepsy thereby providing a supportive school environment for their peers to grow in.
  • Ensure that teachers and children are equipped with the knowledge so as to establish an inclusive environment in which people with, and who are affected by Epilepsy lead a more proactive school life.
  • Develop our children’s empathy skills and work towards ensuring that they create and grow up in an inclusive community, free of any bias and discrimination.

This programme has received very positive feedback from the schools’ community with the schools’ teachers feeling better equipped to deal with epilepsy in school and the students gaining more knowledge about epilepsy.

Enlighten-Action for Epilepsy is continuously working towards engaging all the primary school students and launches different competitions to meet this objective. Our Epilepsy Bookmark Design Competition 2010 provided us with a wonderful opportunity to get even more primary students involved towards raising epilepsy awareness.

2011 Enlightening moments photography competition, was another initiative to encourage the primary school students to be involved in the community.
